At least 20 people were this morning seriously injured after two Rwanda-bound buses collided in Ntungamo along the Ntungamo Kabale road.
The accident that happened at Katinda Bridge 12 Km from Ntungamo town involved a Bus Reg No RAC 704L belonging to Trinity Bus Company coming from Kigali to Kampala and another Reg No RAD 795B of Volcano Bus Company heading to Kigali from Kampala.
The buses were involved in a head-on collision at about 5:15am according to residents and survivors.
Mr Daniel Mawanda a survivor who was aboard the trinity Bus said he witnessed the Conductor amputated and another two women one losing two lower limbs while the other lost one leg.
Police at the scene of the accident were not certain about the number of injuries as they reached after many had been rescued by Redcross ambulance and other good Samaritans, however they estimated the number to be 23.
The injured were taken to Doctor’s referral hospital in Rubaare town while others were taken to Itojo hospital for medication.
Residents say there was poor visibility due to mist and there is a corner at the scene of the accident.
In January six people died following a collision between two Rwanda-bound buses at Rwahi in Ntungamo district. Just last week a Jaguar bus collided into stationary vehicles swerving off the road into the parking of Doctors Referral hospital in Rubaare town killing one person.
The Ntungamo district police traffic and road safety officer Ms Allen Kobusingye blames most of the accidents on negligence and overspeeding.
