Tragedy struck along the Kisoro–Kabale highway on Friday evening, 15th August 2025, when a fatal road accident claimed the life of one person and left two others critically injured.
The accident, which occurred at around 7:40 pm at Busamba in Kisoro District, involved a white Fuso Fighter truck with registration number UBH 156Q and a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle with registration number UEG 370X.
According to police, the motorcycle rider, identified as Niyonzima Peter, 38, a resident of Rwabara village, Chahafi Town Council in Kisoro District, died instantly after being knocked by the truck he was attempting to overtake.
Two passengers on the motorcycle sustained severe injuries. They were identified as Niyonsaba Marita, 56, and a male juvenile whose details are yet to be established. Both were rushed to Mutolere Hospital for emergency treatment.
Preliminary investigations suggest that as the motorcycle attempted to overtake the truck, another vehicle emerged from the opposite direction. In a bid to return to his lane, the rider was struck by the very truck he had tried to overtake.
Police visited and documented the scene, delivered the body to Kisoro Hospital Mortuary for postmortem, and towed the wreckage to Kisoro Central Police Station pending inspection by the Inspectorate of Vehicles.
Police have since launched inquiries into the incident.
