The territorial police in Kanungu District are investigating a suspected child-stealing incident after a two-year-old girl went missing from her home in Rugandu Cell, Katojo Parish, Rutenga Sub-County.
The missing child has been identified as Ninsima Elizabeth, daughter of Felix Byarugaba (32), a resident of the same village.
According to police, the incident happened on August 11, 2025, at around 2:00 pm when the parents of the child entered their house to rest, leaving her outside playing with a neighbor’s child. About 40 minutes later, they discovered the little girl was missing.
A search was immediately conducted within the neighborhood and surrounding areas, but yielded no results. The matter was later reported to Rutenga Police Station, and announcements were made on local radio stations, though the child is still missing.
Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, described the incident as unfortunate and urged parents to always closely monitor their children to prevent such cases.
