The territorial police in Kanungu District are investigating a fatal road accident that claimed the life of a 58-year-old motorcycle rider and left two others injured.
The incident occurred on 11th December 2025 at around 6:00 pm along the Kanyantorogo–Butogota road near Nyamigoye.
According to police, the crash involved a Sino Truck HOWO registration number UBM 913R/UBM 953W, driven by Dan Nsubuga, a resident of Lugazi in Buikwe District, and a motorcycle UDB 411M TV Star ridden by Ivan Tukamushaba, 58, a resident of Rutoma, Bihobwalwa in Kihihi Sub-county.
Tukamushaba died on the spot.
His passenger, Derrick Ashemeza, a 12-year-old resident of the same area, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby clinic in Butogota for treatment.
Preliminary police reports indicate that the truck driver, who was heading from Kanyantorogo to Butogota, was allegedly speeding. On reaching Nyamigoye, he hit a road hump, lost control of the vehicle, and veered into the path of the oncoming motorcycle that was heading toward Kanyantorogo. The impact forced the motorcycle off the road, killing the rider instantly.
Police visited and documented the scene. Tukamushaba’s body was taken to Kihihi Health Centre IV for postmortem, while the injured victims received immediate medical attention.
The motorcycle was taken to Kihihi Police Station pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV), while the truck remains at the scene awaiting towing.
Police have attributed the primary cause of the accident to overspeeding and reckless driving, noting that the tragedy could have been avoided if the driver had adhered to highway code guidelines.
“Inquiries are underway,” said ASP Elly Maate, PRO Kigezi Region.
