The residents of Nyarwanya Cell, Nyarwanya Subcounty in Rushenyi County, Ntungamo District, have expressed frustration over inadequate service delivery, citing poor road conditions and a shortage of clean water.
Speaking during Women’s Day celebrations at Nyarwanya Primary School on Saturday, Scovia Kyarisiima and Adrine Asiimwe from Nyarwanya Kyamuhamya Cell voiced their disappointment with local leaders regarding the lack of essential services. They emphasized that the absence of clean water has put residents’ health at risk, increasing the likelihood of waterborne diseases such as diarrhea and dysentery. They further revealed that locals are forced to share water sources with livestock.
Additionally, Scovia highlighted that poor road infrastructure has led to frequent accidents. She noted that pregnant women, often traveling on boda bodas, have faced complications during childbirth due to the poor road conditions.
Meanwhile, the guest of honor, Fideli Mubangizi—an investor and businessman from Kasana Rugarama Kagongi in Rushenyi County, Ntungamo District, who is eyeing the Rushenyi County parliamentary seat—commended women for their unwavering contributions to the country’s development.
Mubangizi pledged to prioritize education, electricity, and healthcare, emphasizing that these are key pillars for effective service delivery. He called for unity and cooperation among residents to drive development and restore progress in Rushenyi County.
Every year on March 8th, Uganda joins the rest of the world in commemorating International Women’s Day (IWD). Originally established to promote women’s rights and eliminate all forms of discrimination, this day serves as a reminder of the progress made since its inception in 1911. However, despite significant achievements, more efforts are needed to ensure a sustainable and equitable future for women and girls.
