Residents of Nyakyera Town Council in Ntungamo District have raised concerns over the poor state of the Kashoro-Ngomba-Rwazina road, which they say poses a risk to their lives due to numerous potholes that increase the likelihood of accidents.

Seith Ruzira, a resident of Kashoro Trading Center, said transportation from Kashoro to Rwazina has become difficult due to the road’s deteriorating condition. He emphasized the need for government intervention, highlighting the road’s significance in transporting farm produce to market centers.

He added that the poor state of the road has made it difficult for residents of Rwazina 1, Rwazina 2, and Kashoro to access healthcare services at Ngomba Health Centre II. He urged leaders to intervene and take necessary action to improve the road.

Mwebembezi Wilberforce, a boda boda rider who frequently uses the road, said their work is at risk due to the poor condition of the road.

He explained that the deep potholes cause frequent mechanical damage to motorcycles and other vehicles, forcing them to visit garages regularly. He urged the government to prioritize the road’s rehabilitation, emphasizing its importance in transporting people, goods, and services.

Nyakyera Town Council Mayor, Nganwa Kenneth Rubatuhura, confirmed the concerns raised by residents, acknowledging that people struggle to move from one place to another due to the road’s poor condition.

He noted that the road falls under the jurisdiction of the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) but expressed doubt about any imminent repairs.

However, he criticized residents for raising concerns about poor roads, arguing that despite paying taxes, they do not have the right to demand road repairs.

Nganwa stated that residents who complain about poor roads discourage leaders from taking action. He challenged them to either go to court and sue the government or organize a delegation to UNRA if they are dissatisfied with the current state of the road.
