DERICK,

The Rukungiri resident district commissioner Steven Nsubunga Bewayo has halted the ongoing construction of cable bridges in Nyakishenyi Sub County.

The cable bridges are being constructed by donors from the United States of America in partnership with the ministry of works and transport

The construction works were stopped as the relevant district offices were not informed.

Nsubuga says the people in charge of the construction of cable bridges never consulted responsible officers who only got information that materials had been delivered yet a memorandum of understanding needed to be made for security reasons.

Nsubuga says he ordered the Rukungiri district police commander to halt the construction until a memorandum of understanding is signed and relevant documents pertaining to the project scrutinized.

Nsubunga says they are not enemies of development but they need to know what is taking place in the district because they are answerable if anything goes wrong

Construction works had already kicked off at Kafujo bridge which is meant to connect three villages of Rushebeya , Ndarangi and Kahama in Murama parish ,

The other two bridges to be constructed are the Kigarama bridge in Ngoma parish and another bridge that will be connecting Nyakyishenyi and Buyanja sub county through Rwayundo parish.
