The Nyakibale parish priest Rev Father Silverio Twinomugisha has weighed in on the debate about the perpetual celibacy of priests noting that priests should not get married after ordination.
His comment comes after a recent statement attributed to Pope Francis who in an interview with an Argentine journalist, said there is no contradiction for a priest to marry
The pope in an interview published on March 10th, 2023 noted that celibacy is not eternal like ordination.
Fr Siliverio Twinomugisha however says that when the average person hears about married priests and the Catholic Church, they understand these two concepts as being opposed to each other.
He said Priests in the Catholic Church are supposed to be celibate unless the priest is a member of the Anglican Ordinaries established by Pope Benedict XVI to allow married Protestant clergy to enter into the Catholic Church and seek ordination as a Catholic priest, while at the same time being married.
Fr Twinomugisha noted that when a priest is ordained not married, he should remain not married and when a priest is ordained when he has already married, he should stay with his family.
