John Paul, the Engineer at the Rukungiri branch of the National Water and Sewerage Corporation, reassured residents of Rukungiri to remain patient as safe water from the Kahengye project will soon reach their areas.

Paul conveyed this message to our reporter, confirming that the Kahengye water project was transferred to the National Water and Sewerage Corporation by the Ministry of Water and Environment on November 23rd, 2022, during an event at the site in Kebisoni town council, Rukungiri district.

He emphasized that the Kahengye Water project aims to ensure water supply to communities in Rukungiri District and parts of Ntungamo district. Paul highlighted the Corporation’s capacity to supply water to numerous areas beyond the current coverage.

Furthermore, he disclosed that two water pumps have been installed at the project site, each capable of producing 100,000 liters of water per hour. He assured that soon, people will receive water from their taps consistently, as the production capacity will be sufficient to serve multiple areas simultaneously.

Paul articulated NWSC’s objective to provide safe water to all villages while apologizing for any inconvenience caused by residents receiving unfiltered water. He acknowledged instances of unfiltered water resulting from pipe bursts but urged affected individuals to contact NWSC offices to address the issue.
