Ntungamo RDC Miriam Kagiga has assured tight security during this Christmas festival and New Year celebrations.

She made these remarks this morning regarding the state of security during the Christmas festival. Speaking to our reporter, Miriam Kagiga Mugisha, RDC Ntungamo District, warned visitors coming from other districts entering Ntungamo to follow the security guidelines in their communities.

She revealed that they have held village meetings with local leaders, GISOs, and community members and identified criminals who were arrested, especially in areas of Ntungamo Municipality, Kahunga, and Itojo, where cases of insecurity had risen in November and December.

She urged the public to report anyone who comes into their area and is not identified to local council leaders and security.

She further strongly warned thieves who are stealing cattle from farms and kraals, mostly in areas of Rubaare. Miriam said security officers and police will be patrolling every night, and anyone planning a night gathering, show, or overnight prayers should report to security before organizing their events.

Col. James Mwesigye, the Regional Resident Commissioner for Ankole and Kigezi, condemned the habit of families leaving their homes closed while everyone goes out. He said security begins with the family, and then the police also play a role. He urged families always to leave someone at home for security to protect property.

Mwesigye further encouraged drivers to stop reckless driving, which results in deaths and loss of lives caused by overspeeding and drinking alcohol. He condemned this behavior and urged drivers to be sober, drive vehicles that are in good mechanical condition, and follow traffic rules.

He encouraged the public to report foreigners who might try to disrupt and disorganize their villages by calling the police and heads of security, like DPCs and RDCs of their district, so a swift intervention can restore peace.
