Vice Chairman of Ntungamo District Asuman Kigongo expressed appreciation for the outstanding performance of primary schools in Ntungamo Municipality in the 2023 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE).
During the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) general meeting and PLE awards ceremony at Maato Muslim Primary School in Ntungamo Municipality, Kigongo commended the schools for their achievement. He highlighted Ntungamo Municipality’s top ranking among municipalities nationwide, attributing it to the exceptional performance of its aided primary schools.
Kigongo called upon parents to continue supporting their children’s education by providing necessary materials and pledged to donate 10 bags of cement from the district chairman’s office.
Christopher Orimwesiga, the municipal inspector of schools responsible for sports, urged parents to ensure their children have lunch and uniforms daily.
Deputy Mayor Kyomukama Loi Tumwesigye encouraged collaboration between parents and school leaders to sustain the culture of academic excellence. She commended the efforts of the head teacher, Bernards Mununuura, and the school committees in improving academic standards.
Michael Kakuhikire Katureebe, a stakeholder, suggested the adoption of fruit planting to promote environmental conservation and enhance children’s nutrition. He donated fruit trees to the school for this purpose.
Head Teacher Bernards Mununuura Kuribakanya thanked parents for entrusting their children to the school and emphasized the importance of school uniforms for identification. He expressed gratitude to the school committees and municipality for their support and pledged to maintain high academic standards.
Mununuura reported that in 2023, the school maintained its good performance with 10 students in Division One, 43 in Division Two, one in Division Three, and one in Division Four.
During the PTA meeting, Hamudani Sande, the Municipal Procurement Officer, was elected as the new chairperson of the School Management Committee (SMC), replacing Nuru Nduhura. Ten top PLE performers were awarded mattresses, and their teachers were also recognized.
Additional speakers at the event included Taremwa Ali, representing District Kadhis; Mary Gorret Kakuramatsi, the PTA chairperson; Deputy Head Teacher Annah Muhairwe; Twaha Kagoba, the treasurer; and Douglas Muhairwe, the Director of Studies.
