Residents of Nyakinengo parish in Nyakagyeme Sub County, Rukungiri district, have expressed their discontent with the deteriorating condition of Birara road, which has severely impacted service delivery in the area.
This thoroughfare serves as a vital link between Nyakagyeme Sub County and Kanungu district, facilitating the transportation of goods to market centers and enabling access to essential services such as healthcare and education.
Byaruhanga Lawrence, councilor for Nyakinengo, voiced his dissatisfaction, emphasizing the road’s poor state, which hampers the movement of people and commodities, particularly during inclement weather when it becomes impassable.
He called upon district authorities to advocate for the renovation of bridges along the road, citing them as hazardous to road users’ safety.
Additionally, Lawrence urged district authorities to prioritize the restoration of the road to ensure smooth transportation and enhance the overall well-being of residents.
Motorists using the road, particularly boda boda operators, lamented the adverse impact on their livelihoods, citing increased repair costs for their motorcycles due to the road’s condition.
They likened it to a cattle road, emphasizing its impassibility and the damage caused by heavy rains, urging swift action from district authorities to address the situation.
