Ntungamo district officials indicted by the Inspectorate of government for the diversion of a water tank meant for the community have started constructing it in its originally planned place, giving hope for recovery of the loss of over Ushs 100M meant for the facility.

The Deputy Inspector General of Government Ms. Annie Muheirwe arrested three Ntungamo district officials including the district water officer, the district internal auditor, and the District works and technical services secretary in May after a Ferro cement water tank meant for the community in Rwebirere Ruhara Ngoma sub county Ntungamo district worth over Ushs 123M was found constructed on a private house of one Benon Buhungu.

In a letter dated August 8 2023 to the chief administrative officer, the district water officer Mr Dismas Tumushangye reassured his commitment to construct the diverted tank at the place where it was originally to be constructed and started construction on August 9.

Whereas the tank was to be constructed at Rwebirere church of Uganda in Ngoma Sub County, the district engineer, and the contractor constructed it at a private home of Mr Buhungu who blocked locals from using it.

Ms Muheirwe confirmed receipt of the commitment letter copied to her office saying this was a step toward recovery of the lost money.
