Ntungamo District has on Wednesday released the Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) Mock results for 2025 at the District Council Hall, in a ceremony attended by headteachers of both private and government schools, the District Inspector of Schools (DIS), the District Education Officer (DEO), Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), LC5 Chairperson, religious leaders, and the Resident District Commissioner (RDC).

During the release, DEO Ntungamo, Ntare Denis, noted a slight improvement in the district’s mock performance compared to the previous year. He urged teachers to avoid harsh punishments that could demoralize learners or lead to dropouts. Ntare also warned against late arrivals and absenteeism among teachers, as well as the practice of requesting transfers due to poor infrastructure or low enrollment. He encouraged educators to focus on improving learner performance to inspire others to join their schools.

District Inspector of Schools, Mercy Orikiriza, revealed that Kitunga Primary School topped among government schools, while Brilliant Triwkles led the private schools, becoming the best in the entire district. Out of 11,977 pupils registered with UNEB in Ntungamo, 11,875 sat for the mock exams, with three pupils having passed away before the exams. She also highlighted that Kajara Subcounty ranked first in consistency, followed by Ruhaama, Rushenyi, with Ruhaama East ranking last. Mercy thanked the District Chairperson and CAO for adding 293 new teaching staff and promoting 34 deputy headteachers and headteachers, which has contributed to improved performance.

LC5 Chairperson, Samuel Mucugunzi, commended the improvement in learner performance and the cooperation within the district’s education department. He raised concerns about political interference in Rubaare, which has negatively affected school performance, leading to some learners dropping out before completing primary education. Samuel pledged to improve school standards in the current financial year through the renovation and construction of at least five schools in every county.

CAO Ntungamo, Kiza Fedelis, called on headteachers to increase school enrollment by improving learner performance and ensuring both learners and teachers maintain good attendance. He emphasized the importance of transparency, advising schools to display accurate teacher data on notice boards. Kiza also urged accountability in the use of school grants and commended private schools for outperforming government schools. According to the National Assessment results released this week, Ntungamo district is ranked 26th out of 176 districts nationwide.

RDC Ntungamo, Miriam Kagaiga Mugisha, emphasized punctuality among teachers and the need for every government school to improve its performance, noting the progress shown by Igorora Primary School. She praised private school owners for their consistent contribution to the district’s education standards and mobilized support for the efforts of President Yoweri Museveni in ensuring teachers receive their salaries and promoting national development.
