Ntungamo District Chairperson, Samuel Mucunguzi Rwakigoba, has voiced concern over the misuse of PDM funds, stating that it perpetuates poverty rather than alleviating it. He expressed these concerns during the 15th annual general meeting of Kashanda Tukore SACCO held in Kashanda trading center, Rubare sub-county. Mucunguzi emphasized the need for responsible utilization of PDM funds to align with the government’s objective of poverty eradication.

Moreover, Mucunguzi outlined upcoming projects in Ntungamo District, including the construction of pit latrines in schools across sub-counties and road improvements in Nyabihoko and Rubare sub-counties. The district anticipates receiving another installment of PDM funds soon.

Deputy DRDC of Ntungamo, Rose Mary Atuhaire, urged SACCO members to utilize their resources for self-development, emphasizing that SACCOs primarily serve for savings and credit purposes. She cautioned against borrowing from unregistered lenders, stressing the risks of losing property and facing exorbitant interest rates.

Amanya Ivan Rwanyakibare, Chairperson of Kashanda SACCO’s board, reported significant progress despite challenges. He noted a turnaround from a previous loss of 64,830,000 to a profit of 108M, with an increased membership of 1408. Rwanyakibare highlighted plans for office renovations, a new boardroom, and efforts to recover funds from defaulters. Despite their success, the SACCO continues to face issues with borrowers who fail to repay loans.
