The public of Ntungamo District has joined the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) 401 Brigade Irenga to launch the Tarehe Sita activities in Ntungamo Municipality and the district.

Lt. Col. Gumizamu Kafureeka, the Brigade Commander, led the enforcement team, which included the Uganda Police Force and Uganda Prisons. The team paraded through the streets of Ntungamo Municipality, later joined by local leaders, civil servants, the business community, and market vendors. Together, they participated in a general cleaning exercise aimed at raising awareness about sanitation and hygiene in the area.

Lt. Col. Kafureeka emphasized that the Tarehe Sita celebrations and activities are a demonstration of the cooperation between the armed forces and the local communities whenever they are deployed.

He expressed his gratitude to the community for their support of the revolution and praised them for their continuous cooperation with the UPDF in its ongoing efforts to bring peace and stability to the sub-region.

This year’s 44th Tarehe Sita Anniversary celebrations will be held in the Greater Masaka region under the theme, “Celebrating Pan-African Solidarity and the People’s Sacrifice in the Struggle for Freedom and Democracy for Socio-economic Transformation.”

Tarehe Sita, a Swahili phrase meaning “the sixth day,” refers to February 6, 1981, the day the war to challenge the government formed after the disputed 1980 elections began, with an attack on the Kabamba military barracks.

During the function, RDC Ntungamo, Byarugaba Isaiah Kanyamahaane, commended the UPDF as a people’s army that is trusted nationwide.

Kanyamahaane also praised the business community for participating in the general cleaning activities, urging them to take inspiration from the UPDF’s efforts and apply the same commitment to their areas of jurisdiction.

Senior health inspector Tumushabe Jovat expressed appreciation to the UPDF for their strategic partnership with the community.
