The police in Kanungu are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Byamugisha Pio, also known as Kyeba, a resident of Rutoro cell in Rutugunda parish, Kirima sub-county. Byamugisha, who had lived in Rutoro for about 10 years as a casual laborer, had not returned to his home in Ibanda District during this time.
According to reports, the deceased was last seen on Friday, January 31, 2025, around 6:00 PM at Rutoro Trading Centre. He had been staying alone at the home of one Twesigye Posiano, a resident of the same cell. However, Posiano also has another home in Nyamirama, where he works, and only visits the Rutoro house occasionally.
On Saturday, February 3, 2025, at approximately 8:30 AM, Kiconco Annah, Posiano’s wife, went to the garden near their Rutoro home to collect vegetables. She noticed that the door to the deceased’s room remained closed, which was unusual. Upon calling out to him with no response, she alerted the local area chairman, who, along with other community members, went to check on Byamugisha. After breaking open the door, they found his lifeless body lying across the bed, naked, with his legs touching the floor.
The Kirima Police Post was notified, and a team was dispatched to the scene. Police documented the crime scene and interviewed witnesses. The body was later taken to Katate Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination.
Investigations into the cause of death are ongoing, with authorities noting signs of trauma, including a discharge of blood from the deceased’s male organ and the removal of his left eye.
ASP Elly Maate, the Police Public Relations Officer for Kigezi Region, confirmed the ongoing inquiries into the case.
