Ntungamo District has today handed over a total of 468 desks to 13 selected schools, with each school receiving 36 desks. The handover ceremony took place at the district headquarters and was led by the Education Department, the Chief Administrative Officer, the LC5 Chairperson, and headteachers of the beneficiary schools.

At Kyabashenyi Primary School in Kajara County, headteacher Moses Segawa expressed great excitement over the donation. He explained that pupils had previously struggled with poor sitting posture due to lack of adequate desks, and welcomed the desks as a major improvement to the learning environment.

Bernard Mukasa, the District Minister for Health and Education, explained that the 13 schools were chosen based on high pupil enrollment. He highlighted ongoing efforts by district leaders to renovate schools in poor condition, noting that the provision of desks is part of a broader plan to enhance learning facilities. Bernard added that the education committee is planning to renovate more schools this financial year.

Denis Ntare, the District Education Officer, emphasized that providing desks helps reduce congestion in classrooms, which in turn improves learners’ behavior and discipline. He expressed confidence that within two years, all schools in Ntungamo District will be fully equipped with desks, boosting academic performance.

Samuel Mucugunzi, the LC5 Chairperson, confirmed that the district has spent approximately Ugx 250,000 per desk, amounting to a total investment of 117 million shillings for the 468 desks. He encouraged headteachers of schools in poor condition to formally request renovations from the DEO. Samuel further announced plans to renovate at least five schools per constituency in the current financial year, continuing the district’s commitment to improving education infrastructure.
