Four aspiring Members of Parliament for Ntungamo Municipality have formally declined to participate in the planned re-election exercise organized by the NRM Electoral Commission.
In a letter addressed to the NRM National Chairperson and copied to key local authorities, including the NRM District Chairperson, Resident District Commissioner, District Police Commander, and District Internal Security Officer, the candidates cited the deliberate exclusion of 13 cells from the original parliamentary primaries held on 17th July 2025.
The excluded cells include: Cell 08, Cell 03, Cell 06, Kikoni, Nyabubare, Nyakihanga, Mpaama, Nyakibigi, Rukindo, Rwencwera, Kyanju 2, Nyamisha, and Cell 09. According to the candidates, this exclusion undermined the fairness and credibility of the process by considering only seven cells, effectively compromising the integrity of the entire exercise.
The four aspirants—Mr. Ankwasa Philip Tumuhimbise, Mr. Katureebe Michael, Mr. Beyendeza Edward, and Mr. Nuwagira Eric Kacafu—stressed that their refusal aligns with their commitment to fair and transparent electoral practices, labeling the ongoing process as “fraudulent” under its current organization.
The by-elections are scheduled to take place on Monday, 8th September, according to the NRM Electoral Commission guidelines.
