The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has successfully concluded its primary elections for Special Interest Groups in Kagongi Sub-County, Kashari North, Mbarara District, with several positions decided unopposed.

According to the Kagongi Sub-County Chairperson and Chairperson of the Sub-County Security Committee, Mr. Evarist Twine, the exercise was conducted peacefully at the Sub-County headquarters in collaboration with the Sub-County NRM Registrar, Mr. Rweyesa John.

In the youth category, Nagasha Annita (female) and Mugisha Joshua (male) were elected unopposed. For the elderly category, Mrs. Stella Tindyebwa won the female seat with 22 votes, defeating Mwesigye Emma, who managed only 5 votes in the lining-up voting system. The male elderly seat went to Mr. Francis Mwendere, who also sailed through unopposed.

For People with Disabilities (PWDs), Mrs. Angelina Kenyanngi won the female seat with 20 votes against Nagasha Brenda, who secured 11 votes. The male PWD chairperson position was taken by Asaph Baturaine, who garnered 11 votes.

Mr. Twine congratulated all winners and participants, commending voters for their peaceful conduct and for choosing leaders committed to service delivery. He cautioned the public against being swayed by bribery during elections, urging them to exercise independent judgment when voting.

In a bold remark, he advised that if voters are given money by candidates attempting to buy their support, they should “receive it but still make an independent choice at the ballot box” by electing leaders with the capacity to deliver on their promises.
