The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has officially commenced a countrywide political exercise to identify its flag bearers for the upcoming 2026 general elections.
Dr. Tanga Odoi, Chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission, on Sunday unveiled a detailed electoral roadmap that covers Special Interest Group (SIG) village primaries, parliamentary races, local government positions, and other national leadership roles.
Signaling the start of the high-stakes process, Uganda’s Vice President, Rtd. Maj. Jesca Alupo, is set to be the first aspirant to pick her nomination forms at exactly 8:00 a.m. today—demonstrating strong engagement from the party’s top leadership.
Dr. Tanga also announced the official nomination fees: UGX 3 million for Members of Parliament, UGX 1.5 million for Lord Mayor positions, and UGX 1 million for LC V Chairpersons.
All payments, he emphasized, must be made through the NRM Electoral Commission Centenary Bank account number 3100009003. No cash payments will be accepted at the party offices.
The launch marks a significant milestone as the NRM gears up for a competitive electoral season, with party structures across the country expected to intensify mobilization and internal campaigns.
