Mr. Sabiiti Kenneth Baabo, the Education Coordinator of North Kigezi Diocese, has urged school principals to strengthen collaboration with religious leaders to improve academic outcomes.
He made this statement on Monday, March 11, 2024, during the award ceremony for the top performers in the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) at Katurika Secondary School in Buhunga Sub County, Rukungiri District.
Sabiiti Kenneth Baabo commended the efforts of teachers and parents, attributing last year’s successful results to the presence of chaplains in schools.
Canon Yosia Twirire, the Chairman of the Board at Katurika Secondary School, encouraged students to seize the opportunities provided by the school, including quality teachers and infrastructure, and to refrain from wasting time to excel.
Muhumuza Sam, the head teacher of Katurika Secondary School, credited the students’ success to their discipline and teamwork, emphasizing the need to aim higher and transform the school into a model of discipline and academic excellence in the region.
Eryeeza Biryokwe, a parent, commended the school management and staff for consistently improving the number of first-grade achievers and urged parents to provide their children with sufficient time for concentration.
Tugumisirize Dickson, a recent graduate from the sixth form, attributed his success to the conducive learning environment and advised current students to prioritize their studies over worldly distractions for academic excellence.
During the ceremony, students were rewarded with mattresses, suitcases, and cash donations from the school, alumni, and the late Josamu Kimbugwe’s family. Additionally, Jane Nahabwe, who served as a cook at the school for 23 years, received a goat as a token of appreciation upon her retirement.
