The Very Reverend Amatsiko Niwegariho, the Dean of Emmanuel Cathedral Kinyasano, expressed disappointment with women who produce babies and then discard them, labeling it as a sin before God.
Rev. Amatsiko made these remarks at the burial of the late Tumushabe Esther, a resident of Kinyabushiisha Cell, Kitimba Ward, Western Division Rukungiri Municipality, who passed away on Monday due to asthma at North Kigezi Diocese H/C IV Rugarama Hospital.
Rev. Amatsiko noted the irony that mothers carry a baby in the womb for nine months, only to abandon it in bushes, toilets, or garbage dumps, tarnishing the reputation of all women. He emphasized that many childless women are willing to adopt and numerous children’s homes are capable of caring for abandoned babies. He urged mothers to take advantage of these resources instead of resorting to such evil acts.
He expressed strong disapproval towards men who impregnate women and then shirk their responsibilities, attributing them as a significant cause for women abandoning their children.
Mrs. Gloria Rugunda, the mother of the late Esther, described her daughter as a God-fearing and compassionate woman who worked tirelessly for her children as a single mother and for her family. She expressed gratitude towards Mrs. Penninah Ayijuka’s family for their care and support during the thirteen years Esther spent as their housekeeper, despite her frequent battles with illness.
She also thanked those who supported them in Esther’s fight for life, asking forgiveness from anyone she may have wronged, acknowledging her humanity.
Esther passed away at the age of thirty-five, leaving behind four children, whom Rev. Amatsiko Niwegariho requested family members and fellow mourners to support in their education, to help them achieve their life goals.
