Youths have been encouraged to participate in the Next Wave program, supported by Innovation Village, which aims to assist 300,000 young people in Uganda in developing skills to enhance their entrepreneurial ideas and reduce unemployment.

The Next Wave program targets 300,000 youths across Uganda, with a specific focus on 30,000 youths in the Kigezi sub-region. Participants will receive training in various skills, including baking, weaving, making liquid soap, yogurt production, piggery, and poultry farming, among other projects.

Ivan Mushana, the Director of Kigezi Fresh Fruits and Vegetable Limited, mentioned that at least 20 youths from each district in Kigezi will be trained. These trained individuals will then train other youths in their respective districts, enabling them to acquire skills and select projects for funding through the Next Wave program, provided they work in groups.

Mushana emphasized that the initiative aims to equip youths with practical knowledge and ensure they are well-prepared to seize opportunities that will benefit them. He encouraged them to actively engage in the training and learn innovative skills that will help them generate income.

He praised the Uganda Red Cross Society for partnering with them in community mobilization and the Mastercard Foundation for funding the program. He advised youths to utilize the skills they acquire to improve their lives and act as agents of change within their communities.

Jimmy Mugasha, the Red Cross Branch Manager for Rukungiri and Kanungu, also urged trainees to maintain discipline during the training period. He noted that this training project seeks to help Ugandan youths become self-employed, encouraging them to participate actively and form groups to maximize the benefits.

The program will train individuals aged 18-35 in innovative skills across the country to reduce youth unemployment.
