Ndorwa East Member of Parliament Wilfred Niwagaba has called on the youth to shift focus from unproductive habits to meaningful ventures that can secure their future, highlighting economic empowerment and personal discipline as key pillars for sustainable development.

Speaking as the Guest of Honor at the installation of the Blessed Sacrament at Rubira Catholic Church, Niwagaba challenged young people to resist the lure of excessive alcohol consumption, warning that it often leads to destructive peer influence. He encouraged them instead to engage in productive activities such as cultivating fast-income-generating cash crops, noting the availability of ready markets nearby.

“Let us avoid wasting our potential in bars. Instead, take advantage of cash crops that can bring quick returns and change your economic status,” Niwagaba said.

The MP further addressed infrastructural concerns, revealing plans for rural electrification in partnership with the American government. He confirmed that the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) will soon install transformers in areas that have had electric poles for over two decades without power and extend services to new areas.

In a show of collaboration, Niwagaba announced that together with Kabale Woman MP Catheline Ndamira Atwakiire Owabodingi, they have secured funding for the reconstruction of the damaged Kigata-Kacuro bridge, with works expected to begin after the rainy season.

The event, presided over by Rev. Fr. Austen Christmas of Rushoroza Cathedral Parish, drew a crowd of notable local leaders and faithful, including Kabale District Chairman Nshangabasheiija Nelson and other district councilors. Fr. Austen, in his homily, emphasized spiritual connection and devotion to the Blessed Sacrament.

The ceremony blended spiritual nourishment with a strong message of social responsibility, especially among the youth, as community leaders continue to champion both moral and economic transformation.
