President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has emphasized the halt of mineral exports from Uganda to prevent exploitation among its citizens. Museveni made these remarks during the inauguration of the Wood Cross Company, a tin smelting factory located in Ruti, Mbarara City North Division.
The President lamented the exportation of unprocessed tin without adding value, which has contributed to poverty among the populace. He emphasized that the establishment of such factories would generate employment opportunities and bolster the nation’s economy, thereby improving the welfare of Ugandans.
Museveni underscored the potential for more manufacturing industries to emerge, utilizing processed tin. Minister for Energy and Mineral Development, Ruth Nakabirwa Ssentamu, pledged to take action against those involved in smuggling tin to neighboring countries, now that there is a fully operational factory in place.
