Parliamentarians from Rukiga District, led by Rukiga County MP Roland Ndyomugyenyi, are appealing to government to urgently intervene and rescue the family of the late businessman Apollo Nyegamehe, commonly known as Aponye, from losing their properties to bank auctions.

The appeal follows reports that three commercial banks have stepped up efforts to auction Aponye’s assets over an outstanding debt of Shs15 billion. The debt is said to have been accrued through bank loans acquired by the late businessman.

While addressing the media at Parliament, MP Ndyomugyenyi revealed that President Yoweri Museveni had, on 28th April 2025, directed the Ministry of Finance and the Office of the Prime Minister to secure funds and save Aponye’s assets from being sold off. However, the directive is yet to be implemented, raising concerns among family members and local leaders.

Ndyomugyenyi now says he intends to formally petition Parliament to put pressure on government to fulfill the presidential directive. He believes rescuing Aponye’s properties is crucial not just for the family but also for the preservation of jobs and businesses that many people in the region depend on.

The late Apollo Nyegamehe was a prominent businessman in Uganda whose investments significantly contributed to the economy, particularly in the western region.
