Dr. Elisa Rutahigwa, the esteemed Member of Parliament for Rukungiri Municipality, has expressed a firm commitment to advocating for the refurbishment and enhancement of the Rukungiri Main Stadium.

This declaration came during his remarks on Sunday at the launch of a two-day event hosted by the Rukungiri Volleyball Club (RCV) and the opening of the Rukungiri Volleyball Open Tournament at the Rukungiri Main Stadium, located in the Southern Division of Rukungiri Municipality.

Dr. Rutahigwa emphasized the health benefits associated with sports and revealed ongoing efforts to collaborate with the government for the forthcoming renovation and upgrade of the stadium.

He commended the organizers of the tournament and urged civil servants and the general public to embrace sports as a means of generating income and maintaining good health, combating non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and hypertension.

Mr. Maanige Wenceslas, a sponsor of the tournament, pledged his support, expressing his passion for sports and acknowledging its potential as a revenue source, as it brings people together from diverse locations.

Representing the Chief Guest at the awards ceremony, Mr. Ahimbisibwe Dan Bahamire, Chairperson of the Rukungiri District Secondary Schools Sports Committee, highlighted the presence of national players in the tournament, which served as inspiration, particularly for students from institutions like St. Jerome SS Ndama and Immaculate Heart Girl’s Nyakibale.

Mr. Mukuru Alison, President of the Rukungiri Volleyball Club, revealed that the club was established to promote unity, respect, vision, and discipline, in addition to education, having provided scholarships to over 26 students associated with the club.

Mr. Mubangizi Evaristo, a sports teacher at St. Jerome SS Ndama, noted that the tournament provided valuable experience for their students.

The tournament comprised categories for men, won by Spakta from Kampala; women, won by Mitooma Police; corporate teams, won by Rukungiri Volleyball Club; and institutions, won by Bishop Stuart University Mbarara
