Following concerns voiced by parents, teachers, and students of Nyamakukuru Primary School and the nearby community of Burora Parish regarding the absence of clean and safe water in their vicinity, the Member of Parliament for Rukungiri District, Hon. Natukunda Medius Kaharata, has generously donated a 5,000-litre water tank. This donation fulfills promises she made to advocate for improved services.

The installed water tank, benefiting residents of Nyamakukuru and Burora Parish in Nyarushanje Sub County of Rukungiri District, has been set up at Nyamakukuru Primary School. Recognizing water’s crucial role in human life, Hon. Natukunda Medius chose to provide the people of Nyamakukuru with a storage tank to help them conserve water, especially considering their hilly terrain, which requires long treks to access clean and safe water sources.

Natukunda emphasized her commitment to honoring pledges made during her campaign for the 2021 general elections, aiming to improve services for her constituents. Notably, she has previously donated and installed similar tanks at various locations, including Bwambara Health Center, Ndere Health Center, Rwabarara and Bunono Villages in Nyarushanje Sub County, with assurances of further assistance in areas facing water scarcity.

In addition to expressing gratitude for Hon. Medius Kaharata’s generous donation, the head teacher of Nyamakukuru Primary School, Mujuni Charles, pledged to ensure the tank’s upkeep for the community’s benefit. Charles highlighted the struggles faced by women and children who had to trek long distances in search of safe drinking water due to acute scarcity. With the provision of the water tank by their Woman MP, access to water, particularly during the rainy season, is expected to be significantly easier.

Several locals, including Francisca Twinomujuni, Topista Tumushabe, and Nbyamuhaki Evaristo, expressed their heartfelt appreciation to their representative for her involvement in their lives, noting their silent suffering due to a lack of support from district officials. They shared instances of children skipping school because of the considerable time spent, particularly in the mornings, fetching water. They pledged continued support for Hon. Natukunda Medius, recognizing her significant efforts in improving their welfare.
