Hon. Namamanya Naboth, the Member of Parliament for Rubabo county, expressed serious concerns about the escalating crime rate in Rubabo, Rukungiri, and across Uganda. He addressed a large gathering of mourners at the funeral of the late Elina Kampiiha Mwesigye, a grandmother from Nyakishenyi sub-county, who passed away on Wednesday, as they paid their respects.

Namamanya attributed the rising crime rate in Rubabo county to pervasive poverty, highlighting the lack of financial resources as a significant contributing factor to the prevailing issues. He stressed that the constant increase in criminal activities is closely tied to the economic struggles faced by the population.

The MP drew attention to recent reports indicating that 15% of Ugandans are experiencing depression, affecting their cognitive abilities. In response, he called upon religious leaders to play a more active role in offering guidance and counseling to help alleviate the mental health challenges faced by the people.

Furthermore, Hon. Namamanya attributed the widespread poverty in Uganda to individuals who opt for alcohol consumption instead of seeking employment opportunities. He urged for collective efforts to address both the economic hardships and the social issues contributing to the rise in criminal behavior.

Elina Kampiiha Mwesigye, born in 1924, passed away at the age of 92. The late Kampiiha was remembered during the funeral as a hardworking, God-fearing, and education-supportive individual, as described by Wednesday Twinomujuni, her grandson.

The Nyakisoroza Archdeacon, Cano. Nathan Tigakakanya, emphasized the importance of prioritizing love and kindness in his sermon, challenging mourners to adopt these values in their lives.

The late survived by her husband, Kezekia Mwesigue, two daughters, 46 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
