Hon. Juliet Agasha Bashisha, the Member of Parliament for Mitooma District, has urged the government to increase funding for infrastructure development in primary schools to create a conducive learning environment. She made this appeal on June 30th, 2024, during her address at a fundraising event held at Rwanja Primary School in Rurehe Sub County, Mitooma District. The event aimed to raise funds for renovating classrooms and constructing toilets.
Hon. Juliet expressed concern over the current conditions in many primary schools where students are learning in dusty classrooms, which negatively impacts their enthusiasm for education. She promised to advocate for enhanced funding to ensure a conducive learning environment that motivates learners.
In his remarks, Hon. Captain Dononzio Mugabe Kahonda, the Member of Parliament for Ruhinda South, challenged parents not to rely solely on the government but to unite in providing a conducive learning environment for the benefit of their children.
Mr. Arthur Atuhweirire Kazoora, Managing Director of Kazoora Foundation, donated 25 bags of cement to Rwanja Primary School, 10 boxes of tiles to Nyakabale Church of Uganda, 10 bags of cement to Katagata Fulgospel Church, and 25 bags of cement to Kabukyeera Catholics Church. He urged the recipients to use the donations effectively, emphasizing the foundation’s commitment to supporting public initiatives and development.
Rev. Father Ronald Kamukama Owahamusitaari, Assistant Priest at Nyakishojwa Parish, Mbarara Diocese, commended the organizers for their concern for the school’s well-being. He encouraged former students to support their alma maters as a way of giving back, highlighting the role schools play in shaping individuals’ lives, and condemned any religious or racial divisions in Mitooma District.
Benon Karyieja Boneza, Chairperson of LC5 Mitooma District, called on residents to reject corruption and report any corrupt leaders to him for action. He also urged parents to supplement government efforts in educating their children, emphasizing the limitations of government resources.
Denis Turwomwe, the Head Teacher of Rwanja Primary School, expressed gratitude for the support received and assured stakeholders of accountability in the use of funds. The fundraising event successfully raised a total of UGX 16,270,000 and 86 bags of cement.
