Hon. Catheline Atwakiire Ndamira, the Woman Member of Parliament for Kabale District and Chairperson of the District Roads Committee, on Saturday led a meeting at the Kabale district local government headquarters. During the meeting, they officially launched a 1 billion Ugandan Shillings grant for the rehabilitation and maintenance of roads in Kabale District.

The primary agenda of the meeting included a review of the 2022/23 Annual Roads performance report for Kabale District local Government, Kabale Municipality, and Kabale UNRA Station. Additionally, they sought approval for the Annual Roads Workplan for 2023/24 and reviewed the Roads performance report for the 1st and 2nd Quarters of 2023/24.

Hon. Catheline expressed gratitude to the district council for their cooperation and efforts. However, she noted that the allocated 1 billion Ugandan Shillings might not be sufficient considering the maintenance needs of most roads in the district. In response, she pledged to continue lobbying for additional funds for Kabale District, working alongside Hon. Wilfred Niwagaba Rugamba’amazima.

Nshangabasheija Nelson, the Kabale district governor, welcomed the honorable MPs, especially Hon. Catheline Ndamira Atwakiire and Hon. Wilfred Niwagaba, along with Hon. Nicholas Kamara, for consistently advocating for the district. He urged them to lobby for more funds, suggesting that Kabale, given its challenging terrain compared to other districts, should ideally receive a higher allocation, perhaps around 3 billion Ugandan Shillings.

Hon. Wilfred Niwagaba, also a member of the Roads Committee, commended Hon. Catheline Ndamira and other committee members for their efforts. He also expressed appreciation for the proper utilization of road funds by the district local government.

The meeting was attended by various committee members, including Dr. Nicholas Kamara (Kabale Municipality MP), Godfrey Nyakakahuma (Kabale Resident District Commissioner), Nelson Nshangabasheija (Kabale District Chairperson), Emmanuel Sentaro Byamugisha (Mayor Kabale Municipality), Bridget Asiinga Tumwesigye (Kyanamira sub-county woman councilor and District secretary for Finance and works), Gordon Manzi (Principal Assistant Secretary-Kabale District local Government), Eng Turinawe Bagamuhunda (District Engineer), among others.
