Police in Rukiga registered an alleged incident of mob murder involving Gidion Arinda, a 22-year-old resident of Nyaruhanga Cell, Kitanga Parish, Rwamucucu Sub-county, Rukiga District.

The incident occurred at Nyamiko Cell, Noozi Parish, Rwamucucu Sub-county, on the 14th of June 2024, around 11:00hrs.

Reportedly, on the night of the 14th of June 2024, at approximately 04:00hrs, the deceased and three other suspects allegedly stole two cows belonging to Byaruhanga Patrick, also known as Kabete, from Kanyabutengye Cell, Noozi Parish, Rwamucucu Sub-county.

They attempted to sell the cows at Kyobugombe Market in Kabale District. However, suspicions arose among market-goers when the group failed to provide proper documentation for the cows. Subsequently, they were asked to lead the crowd to where they had acquired the animals.

During this process, the three suspects managed to escape, leaving Gideon Arinda behind. Angered, the mob reportedly killed him.

James Kyanyaganunu filed a report, and the crime scene was visited, and documented, and witnesses’ statements were recorded.

The body was transported to Kabale Regional Hospital for a postmortem examination and later released to the family for burial.

Authorities urge the public to refrain from vigilantism and instead use legal channels to handle suspected criminals, involving the police so that they can be prosecuted in court.

Investigations are ongoing.
