The Kabale territorial police are currently searching for a suspect accused of fatally assaulting an 11-month-old girl. The suspect, identified as Bernard Nyetunge, allegedly attacked Evas Kyakunzire in Kamukungu cell, Kisasa parish, Kamuganguzi sub-county, Kabale district.
It is reported that Nyetunge has a history of domestic violence towards his family members due to alcohol abuse. His family has previously reported his behavior to local leaders, resulting in counseling sessions and attempts to resolve the issues.
According to reports, on June 15, 2024, around 2:00 AM, Nyetunge returned home intoxicated and became violent, assaulting everyone in the household. Family members fled the house, including Atuheire Bridget, who was carrying her sister Evas on her back. Nyetunge pursued them outside and allegedly struck the baby on the head with a stick. The infant was rushed to a health center where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Upon receiving information about the incident, the officer in charge of Katuna police station alerted the CID office in Kabale, where a case was registered and the crime scene was documented.
