In a shocking incident, the territorial police in Rubanda have apprehended three suspects for questioning in connection to the tragic death of 30-year-old Joseph Ampumuza. A resident of Nyakahita cell in Kakyenaga Parish, Nyamweru Sub-county, Ampumuza is believed to have fallen victim to a merciless mob lynching.

The detained suspects are identified as Mbabazi Moses, 47, a peasant and Chairperson LC 1 of Kakyenaga cell; Turyamureeba Senturino, 36, another peasant and Chairperson LC 1 of Mushunga cell; and Turyamureeba Alex, 47, Chairperson LC 1 of Nyakahita cell, all residing in Kakyenaga Parish.

The horrifying incident reportedly took place on January 16, 2024, around 02:00 PM, when Nyamweru police station received two individuals from Kakyenaga cell and one from Mushunga cell, accompanied by the severely injured and bleeding Joseph Ampumuza.

Upon inquiry, the individuals informed Aip Bakenda David Wilfred, the officer in charge, that Ampumuza had been viciously attacked by a mob on suspicions of theft. Responding promptly, the officer ordered the immediate transfer of the victim to Nyamweru Health Centre III, where he was later pronounced dead at approximately 05:40 PM.

The crime scene was meticulously investigated by D/SP Arinaiwe Frank, the district CID officer, and his team. Relevant witness statements were recorded, a postmortem was conducted, and the body was subsequently handed over to Ampumuza’s grieving relatives for burial.

The Rubanda police are actively pursuing inquiries into the tragic incident, aiming to unravel the circumstances that led to the fatal lynching of Joseph Ampumuza.
