Rev. Fr. Ronald Kamukama Owamusitaari, the Assistant Priest of Nyakishojwa Catholic Parish in Mbarara Diocese, has expressed concern over the poor road network in Mitooma District, which is hindering church service delivery.
He raised the issue today, Monday, 3rd February 2025, during his homily at the funeral mass of Mzee Richard Cyril in Nyakihita Parish, Mutara Sub-County, Mitooma District.
Fr. Owamusitaari commended Mzee Richard Cyril for being a devoted Christian and exemplary parent. However, he expressed dissatisfaction with the poor state of the roads, which forces priests to walk or rely on motorcycles for outreach services while avoiding motor vehicles due to the bad road conditions.
Habibu Arinaitwe, the LC3 Chairperson of Mutara Sub-County, cited insufficient road funds as a major challenge, noting that only 3 kilometers of roads are maintained annually despite support from Kazoora Foundation and Mutara Mines. He appealed to the district authorities to enhance their road rehabilitation efforts in the sub-county.
Arthur Atuhwereire Kazoora, the Managing Director of Kazoora Foundation and a Ruhinda South parliamentary candidate, praised Mzee Richard Cyril for his mentorship in business. He also emphasized the need for improved road rehabilitation, which has been hindered by a lack of machinery in the district.
Patrisia Kemihika and Nyakato Teopisita, co-wives of the late Mzee Richard Cyril, celebrated his love, care, and strong Christian values. They urged their children to follow in their father’s footsteps.
Nicholas Tushabomwe, one of the deceased’s children, praised his father’s faithfulness and revealed that he passed away due to spinal cord and skull fracture injuries sustained before his admission at Ishaka Adventist Hospital.
Mzee Richard Cyril is survived by three wives, 22 children, 58 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
