A-33-year-old man in Mitooma has been arrested on suspicion of killing a colleague shortly after receiving funds for Parish Development. Marcial Tumusiime, the spokesperson for the Greater Bushenyi Police, reported that the incident occurred at Omukijungu Trading Center in Kanyabwanga Parish, Kigyende Subcounty, Mitooma District.
The arrested individual has been identified as Nicholas Tumuhereze, a 31-year-old resident of Kigyende 1A village, Kanyabwanga. The victim in this case has been identified as Muhereza Gallas, who also resided in the same area.
According to reports, on October 11, 2023, at approximately 7:30 PM, the deceased visited Emmanuel’s bar at Omukijungu trading center, where he encountered the suspect and others who were drinking. Upon arrival, the suspect informed the deceased that he had recently received funds from the Parish Development Model and threatened to assault him, indicating he would compensate him simultaneously.
Subsequently, the suspect physically attacked the deceased, using punches and kicks throughout his body. Fortunately, the bar owner and other patrons intervened and rescued the victim. A report of the assault was filed at the Kashongorero Police Post, and the victim received initial medical attention at RAYAAN Medical Clinic before being transferred to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for further treatment.
Regrettably, on October 28, 2023, around 11:00 PM, the victim succumbed to the injuries inflicted by the suspect and passed away.
