The Ministry of Works and Transport, in collaboration with Rukiga District authorities, on Tuesday officially launched the rehabilitation of the 8.2-kilometer Mparo-Noozi-Butambi road in Rwamucucu Sub County.

This ambitious project, estimated to cost 1.06 billion shillings, aims to improve connectivity and transportation infrastructure in the region. The road, starting from the District headquarters and extending to Nyamweru Sub County in Rubanda District, is a significant undertaking.

Hon Rolland Ndyomugyenyi, the Rukiga County Member of Parliament and guest of honor at the launch, shared that his role in the Parliamentary Physical Infrastructure allowed him to secure the 1.06 billion shillings from the government through the District Urban and Community Access Roads project in the Ministry of Works and Transport. This funding ensures better road access in the area.

Engineer Musa Mwine, the Civil Engineer in the Ministry of Works and Transport and project manager, revealed that Mita Engineering and Logistics Company Limited had been contracted for a six-month period starting next Monday. The scope of work includes road clearance, heavy grading, laying first-class murram, drainage improvements, and the construction of permanent bridges. He emphasized that there would be no compensation for damages, urging locals to harvest crops and clear properties within 7 meters from the road.

Both the Rukiga District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon Caroline Kamusiime Muhwezi, and the District LC5 Chairperson, Robert Mbabazi Kakwereere, cautioned the contractor against substandard work and the impunity displayed by some contractors awarded central government contracts. They expressed hope that the road rehabilitation would stimulate agriculture and other businesses, calling on the community to cooperate with the contractor.
