Raphael Magyezi, the Minister for Local Government, has urged tea farmers in tea-growing districts not to uproot their gardens despite the ongoing crisis in the tea sector.

Speaking at the commissioning of a UGX 4.6 billion solar plant at Igara Growers Tea Factory, Magyezi reassured farmers that the challenges facing the sector will be addressed, as the government is working tirelessly to stabilize the industry.

He emphasized that the government is aware of the difficulties and is implementing measures to address them, including subsidizing fertilizer costs and introducing a tea policy to regulate the industry.

Deo Atuhaire, the LCV Chairman of Buhweju District, encouraged farmers to remain optimistic, drawing parallels between the current tea crisis and past struggles in the coffee industry. He noted that coffee farmers once uprooted their plantations due to falling prices, a decision many now regret.
