RDC Mbarara, Turyabagyenyi Emmanuel Kateera, has issued a warning to individuals who have defrauded or failed to repay funds received through the Presidential Initiative on Wealth and Job Creation EMYOOGA Sacco program.
He stressed the importance of reconciliation before facing legal consequences.
Turyabagyenyi explained that beneficiaries who have not shown commitment to repay their loans for more than two years will be subject to arrest and charges related to obstructing government programs and theft.
The announcement comes in the wake of the arrest of Mr. Natukunda Vincent, the chairperson of Kashari North Market Vendors Emyooga Sacco. Natukunda had borrowed 1.8 million shillings from the Sacco but had allegedly falsely claimed to have recovered 903,000 shillings, which he had collected personally.
This decision was made during the ongoing campaign program led by RDC Mbarara, which monitors and assesses the performance of Emyooga Sacco in Mbarara district.
Turyabagyenyi stated that Natukunda had been arrested and handed over to Bwizibwera Police Station for further investigation. He was granted a police bond after his relatives paid 1,275,000 shillings, with the remainder to be paid within one month.
Natukunda is facing charges related to theft and obtaining money under false pretenses.
