During a monitoring exercise for the Presidential Initiative on Wealth and Job Creation (Emyooga) and the Parish Development Model (PDM) program, Mrs. Jacqueline Kankunda, the Deputy Resident City Commissioner for Mbarara City North Division, issued a stern warning against diverting funds due to corruption. She emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that the intended beneficiaries of these programs receive the allocated funds as budgeted.

Mrs. Kankunda made these remarks while addressing community members in Kishasha Ward, Biharwe, and Rwenjeru Ward, Kakiika, in Mbarara City North Division. Citizens in these areas had voiced concerns about the lack of basic services, including safe water, electricity, and an improved road network.

The monitoring exercise was organized by a team from the Office of the National Chairperson (ONC), led by Ankole Regional Coordinator Barugahare Joseph, with support from the NRM Chairperson for Mbarara District, Herbert Kamugisha, among others. The districts involved in this operation include Ntungamo, Ibanda, Rwampara, Kazo, Kiruhura, Isingiro, and Mbarara, including Mbarara City.

Mr. Kagyenda Moses, the LC 2 Chairperson for Kishasha, highlighted the absence of electricity and safe water supply in the parish, as well as the poor road conditions, which are riddled with sharp potholes.

Mrs. Kankunda assured the people of Rwenjeru Ward that those who have not yet received PDM funds will receive them. She also addressed issues of land grabbing and forced evictions by influential individuals in the government, stating that these issues need to be investigated by writing to the relevant stakeholders.

Ankole Regional Coordinator ONC Barugahare Joseph reassured the residents of Rwenjeru Ward that the missing PDM funds would be investigated and recovered. He emphasized the team’s commitment to fighting corruption.

NRM Chairperson for Mbarara District, Herbert Kamugisha, expressed gratitude to the ONC team for their dedication to reaching out to the community and consulting them on their access to government services.
