Officials at Western Region Immigration office in Mbarara have disclosed that they are stuck with over 1,000 new passport booklets that have not been received by legally registered owners.
James David Lubwama the Western Region Immigration Officer Mbarara said with the passports legally processed and printed every day, the office is currently stuck with boxes of passports after owners failed to pick up their booklets which have accumulated at the passport center Mbarara City.
Lubwama made the remarks during a one-day sensitization clinic of Western Uganda leaders on the East Africa E-passport in Mbarara City at Boma at the Office of the City Resident Commissioner.
He explained that most of the passports were applied for in 2022 but noted that some of the applicants intentionally could have used wrong information including phone contacts and were not able to receive notifications to pick their booklets.
