Maziba Primary School in Maziba Sub-County, Kabale District, is facing uncertainty regarding the commencement of the upcoming term due to a shortage of classrooms. The school’s infrastructure, which includes seven classroom blocks, the head teacher’s office, staffroom, and store, was severely damaged by landslides in May 2020. Despite ongoing reconstruction efforts, there are concerns about the readiness of the school for the upcoming term.

In response to the calamity, the government allocated 500 million Shillings for the initial phase of constructing a new classroom block. However, during a recent visit to the school, Kabale District Chief Administrative Officer, Fred Karyesubura, announced an additional government funding of 432 million to further develop the school’s facilities.

Highlighting the challenges, Head Teacher Tophili Ngabirano disclosed that since the landslides, makeshift classrooms have been set up in the nearby resource room of Bukinda Core-Primary Teachers College. Unfortunately, they have now been asked to vacate these premises.

Eng. Peter Bamwesigye, the Site Engineer from Vidas Engineering Services Company Limited, the contractor responsible for the construction, assured that the new structures would be completed within six months, emphasizing a commitment to delivering quality work within the specified timeframe.

Ndorwa East County Member of Parliament, Wilfred Niwagaba, and Kabale District Woman Member of Parliament, Catherine Atwakire Ndamira, cautioned the contractor against substandard work. They also urged the school administration to make optimal use of the newly constructed classrooms to enhance academic performance.
