Police in Rubirizi District have arrested a 38-year-old man on allegations of murdering his biological brother for unknown reasons.
Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and identified the suspect as Behakanira Johnson, alias Nana, a 38-year-old peasant and resident of Nyamirima III Cell, Kateerera Parish, Kateerera Sub-County in Rubirizi District.
Tumusiime further identified the deceased as Zephania Kamanyire, a 40-year-old Mukiga and peasant, residing at the same address.
The incident allegedly occurred on June 18, 2024, at around 5:00 AM at Kabanyarwanda Trading Center in Nyakahita, Kateerera Sub-County, Rubirizi District. The suspect reportedly followed the victim, attacked him, and left him unconscious before fleeing the scene.
Saturday Salvani, the 50-year-old chairman of LCII Kakari Parish, Kyabakara Sub-County in Rubirizi District, said the victim was taken to a nearby clinic for treatment and later referred to Kampala International Teaching Hospital, where he died on June 20, 2024.
Salvani added that the suspect had been threatening to kill the deceased and other family members, which led to the deceased’s wife divorcing him out of fear for her safety.
