Police in Isingiro District are investigating a shocking double murder involving a man who allegedly slaughtered his biological mother and elder brother in the early hours of April 7, 2024.
The district police commander, SP Ogwang Tom, confirmed the incident and identified the prime suspect as Ronald Muhereza, who is currently in police custody. Several other suspects believed to have assisted in the crime are on the run.
According to police, the gruesome incident occurred around 3:00 am in Macuro, Mabona Ward, Isingiro Town Council. The victims have been identified as Vivian Kibariga, 60, and her son Ezra Akandwanaho, 30. Kibariga was reportedly brutally attacked, with her face smashed and throat slit, while Akandwanaho was similarly slaughtered.
Local council chairperson Mr. Akim Mawanda commended police efforts in swiftly responding to the incident and working closely with local leaders to curb fatal crimes in the area. Mawanda revealed that Muhereza, who had migrated to Isingiro from Masaka after purchasing land, had a history of criminal activity, including charges of defilement and assault.
Muhereza, who resides in Kaberebere Trading Centre, had reportedly been pressuring his mother for land or money, threatening her with dire consequences if his demands were not met. On the night of the murder, he was allegedly seen in the company of two unidentified men traveling on a hired boda boda motorcycle, suspected to have aided in the killings.
Local leaders are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any unfamiliar individuals in their communities to authorities to help prevent future crimes.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing as police continue the search for the other suspects involved.
