The territorial police in Rukungiri are investigating the death of 32-year-old Vian Ainembabazi, a resident of Omutaba village, Kyokyezo Parish, Nyamweru Sub-County in Rubanda District, who was allegedly assaulted to death by his in-laws on Wednesday, 3rd December 2025, at Nyamabale village, Kafunjo Parish, Nyakishenyi Sub-County, Rukungiri District.
Preliminary reports indicate that Ainembabazi had ongoing domestic disagreements with his wife, Rita Kadugara, which led her to return to her parents’ home in Nyamabale village last month. The disputes reportedly angered Ainembabazi, prompting him to confront and attack his wife along with her parents.
It is further alleged that Ainembabazi had previously stolen seven iron sheets belonging to his father-in-law, Kadugara Justus, and had once thrown his father-in-law’s clothes into a pit latrine. Local authorities were reportedly involved in mediating these disputes.
On the day of the incident, Ainembabazi allegedly attacked his father-in-law’s family again, prompting Kadugara’s sons to pursue him up Kafunjo Hill, where he was lynched. The incident was reported to Nyakishenyi Police Station by a witness, Ndyahebwa Anthony.
Police visited the scene, documented the incident, recorded statements from witnesses, and conveyed the body to Rwakabengo HC III mortuary for a postmortem examination. Efforts are ongoing to arrest the suspects involved for questioning.
ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Police spokesperson, confirmed that inquiries are ongoing.
