Vendors along Nankurabye Street in the Eastern Division of Rukungiri Municipality have voiced their concerns regarding the rising presence of machete-wielding thieves during the night.
These concerns stem from an incident last night where Benson Tukamuhebwa, aged 29 and a resident of Kabasoni Cell, Nyakitabire Parish, Ruhinda Sub County, Rukungiri District, was attacked and stabbed multiple times around the neck. Tukamuhebwa, who works as a bicycle service provider at Ntungamo stage, was assaulted at 10 pm on Nankurabye Street by two individuals who complained about him being near their shop while they were smoking.
Fortunately, bystanders intervened and rescued him from the attackers, rushing him to Doctors Case Medicals along Republic Road in Rukungiri Municipality, where he is currently receiving medical treatment for serious injuries.
Mukama Anorld, also known as Taata Nataani, a chapati vendor along Nankurabye Street, expressed his distress over the emergence of machete-wielding thieves during the night and urged for increased security measures.
Byaruhanga Colosositumu, also known as Rwakaana, the Chairperson of Rukungiri District Traders, called for enhanced patrols, particularly during the upcoming Easter Festival, to address the security challenges faced by the vendors and residents.
