Rukiga police responded to a tragic incident resulting in the loss of Wilber Mugisha, a 37-year-old security guard and resident of Rugaga village, Rwenyange parish, Kamwezi sub-county, Rukiga district.
The incident occurred on March 21, 2024, at approximately 14:00 hours along the Kamwezi Rutobo road in Kamwezi sub-county, Rukiga District. It involved a white Toyota Premio with registration number UAY 139T, driven by Nuwamanya Geoffrey, a 52-year-old resident of Mutojo village, Kigara parish, Kamwezi sub-county.
According to reports, the deceased, who was suspected to be mentally unstable, was wielding a machete while cutting grass along the roadside. As Nuwamanya Geoffrey approached, traveling from Kamwezi towards Rubare, the deceased suddenly stood in the middle of the road and struck the vehicle’s bonnet and front screen with the machete. In self-defense, Nuwamanya accelerated, causing the deceased to hit himself against the front screen, resulting in fatal injuries.
The primary cause of the accident was deemed to be the actions of the careless pedestrian.
The scene was promptly visited and documented, with the driver detained for questioning and the vehicle towed to CPS Rukiga pending further investigation. Statements from eyewitnesses were recorded, and inquiries into the matter are ongoing.
