Residents of Mabare Cell, Kyitondo Parish, Ihunga Subcounty in Kajara County, Ntungamo District are decrying the persistent problem of water scarcity in their area.

It is reported that the public is forced to move long distances to nearby cells with springs to access clean water, a situation that has persisted for years.

Speaking to our reporter, the Chairperson LC2 Kyitondo Parish, Amon Twikyirize, highlighted that the people in Mabare need immediate help, saying they struggle a lot to access clean water, which has forced them to dig dams.

He further stated that they have reached out to the responsible authorities but nothing has been done, revealing that they have water sources (eshuro zamaizi) and it would be better if they were given a spring (omugano) in their area.

Boonabana Teopista, Chairperson LC1 Mabare Cell, echoed her concerns, saying they are seriously affected by this challenge as some residents depend on unclean water, which poses a risk to their health.

She further noted that despite making complaints and reaching out to those responsible, nothing has been done to help them. Some residents have resorted to buying tanks, but rainwater cannot sustain them through the dry season.

Ronald Baguma, a resident of the same area, raised his concerns, stating that they are really struggling to get clean water and must travel long distances to nearby cells. He added that they have been depending on water from dams, which they share with animals.

He further highlighted that the little finances they earn are spent on hospital bills to treat diseases resulting from drinking unclean water, calling upon their leaders to take urgent action.

However, speaking to the Chairperson LC3 Ihunga Subcounty, Nfunzakyi Deo, he said that as a subcounty, they are distributing springs (emigano), citing Nyakyibigye as one of the beneficiaries. He called upon the Mabare Cell leaders, led by the Chairperson LC2 Kyitondo Parish, to reach out to him in writing so that his team can visit the area, conduct surveys, identify water sources (eshuro), and rectify the problem.
