Residents of Mabanga Parish, Kebisoni Sub County, Rukungiri District, Express Dissatisfaction Over Kanyaruhiinda Bridge Breakdown
Residents of Mabanga Parish in Kebisoni Sub County, Rukungiri District, have expressed dissatisfaction following the breakdown of Kanyaruhiinda Bridge.
The bridge, located at the boundary of Rukungiri and Mitooma Districts and connecting the trio of Rukungiri, Mitooma, and Ntungamo Districts, was severely damaged on one side of its bank on the Rukungiri side due to heavy water runoff on December 23, 2024.
Kanyaruhiinda Bridge, a high-quality structure constructed by Mitooma District during the 2015/2016 financial year under the CAIPU Project, suffered damage after diverted water demolished the Rukungiri side of the access point, rendering it impassable.
Patrick Turyamuhebwa, a resident of Kyondo Cell in Mabanga Parish, expressed frustration over increased transport costs and the inconvenience of trekking long alternative routes through Ntungamo District or Buhunga Sub County to access Mitooma District for socioeconomic activities, including trade.
Amos Katugunda, the Mabanga Parish Councilor, revealed plans to petition district authorities and area Members of Parliament to seek an urgent solution.
Mzee Charles Kahanyi, the LC3 Chairperson of Kebisoni Sub County, confirmed awareness of the issue and the ongoing process of petitioning district authorities and Members of Parliament for immediate intervention.
